Game Jam Update #5

Well ladies and gentleman, that's the buzzer! Summer slow jam #3 is complete. All things considered, I feel Rogue Mechs came out pretty well. I was able to implement the game type "aggro-party" in the form of a king of the hill, hold on to the ball as long as possible, melee fest. Time to goto the after-party down at Revolution Hall and see if the game is any fun.

Game Jam Update #4

Didn't manage to get much done over the weekend, but no regrets there. However, we now have special attacks implemented!

We have: -The neutral-special "Sausage Attack." -The forward-special "Charge Cannon." -And the up-special "Float Away in a Giant Blue Bubble."

No down-special yet, but it'll probably be some sort of big explosion. After that, it'll be time to add in the dash/blink ability.

P.S. The sausage animation is hilarious and I will not change it.

Game Jam Update #3.5

Didn't get a chance to update yesterday, so here's a small update. At this point, we meet the bare minimum requirements for a "game." Stuff happens, you can beat other players, you can win. Oh, also added a camera so things are a bit more dynamic.

Game Jame Update #2

The ragdoll work we put in yesterday has finally become useful! Instead of shitty break dancing, we have entertaining animations with very little input on my part. That's all the work I'm going to put into animations/physics for now until I get to the point of adding in attacks later. But even those will be pretty basic; think an arm being blindly thrust forward.

I've also finished laying most the groundwork for the multiplayer aspect, so in today's preview I threw in another little guy to interact with.

Oh, also, the screen recording software I was using sped the gif up quite a bit for some reason. It's not normally quite so fast and twitchy.

Game Jam Update #1

Alright, 12 hours into the game jam and I've got the beginnings of...something. The combined themes for the jam are "Multiplayer" and "Aggro-Party" so I've decided to go with a 4-Player Smash Bros style brawl fest with some additional elements I'll mention later to satisfy the "aggro" requirement.

I was unable to find an artist to pair with, so I decided I'd avoid the whole "animation" issue with the powers of math. Characters will basically just be 2-D ragdolls. This actually simplifies a couple issues and in the end should look pretty hilarious.

Even though the ragdolls will only really be there for animation not for the actual interaction and movement, they don't need to be perfect. But after spending hours stringing together a little model I couldn't help but wonder if the little guy would be able to stand on his own. He didn't do so great, but I couldn't help but root for him as he repeatedly smashed his face into the floor. Eventually giving up and breaking his own legs so he can do back flips instead. Follow your dreams little man.
